I love watching the Chapelle Show. Dave Chapelle’s TV baby was one of the most well written and funniest shows on TV. It was intelligent in a very subversive manner that just makes each episode more exciting to watch. You just don’t know what Dave Chapelle will think of next or who he will make fun of.
One of the funniest skits that I have seen my whole life and not just in the Chapelle Show was his parody of R Kelly in his I Piss On You video. This skit came out at the height of the scandal surrounding the music artist. He was accused of having sex with an underage girl in exchange for money but more than the scandal was the fact that a video allegedly showing the actual sexual act between R Kelly and the girl. The video was pretty explicit and at one point, the guy (allegedly R Kelly) actually urinated on the girl. Sick and degenerate this act may be, Dave Chapelle saw the weird humor of this incident and actually made the music video to poke fun at the situation, at R Kelly and even hip hop culture.
What surprised me though was discovering that Vida Guerra was a part of that video. I cannot remember seeing her there because I saw the video before I found out about Vida. But the thought that I had seen Vida before she actually became insanely famous actually makes me feel good thinking about it – like a friend who I have seen perform in a play before I actually made friends with them.
